Money Plan SOS

The no-debt approach to living a full life in a country addicted to credit cards, car loans, and an unrealized bondage to “building a good credit score”.

This show will make you think differently about the way we handle money - while also encouraging you to save and spend wisely.

This feed offers the 200 public releases of the Money Plan SOS podcast, plus bonus recordings never heard before on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Google.

Enjoy! And pay attention - not interest!

The Money Plan SOS podcast was retired in December 2015, the month Steve and his wife paid off their mortgage!

#155: How much attention do you really need to give to managing personal finances? Here are 10 ways we pay attention to our money - and most of it doesn't involve a lot of time:

  1. Always: Check remaining budget balances before spending.
  2. Daily: Enter transactions into your checkbook/software/YNAB
  3. Monthly: Balance checkbook/YNAB
  4. Monthly: Set up budget (again, we use YNAB)
  5. Quarterly: Review investments and retirement plans
  6. Annually: Rebalance portfolios and contribution amounts
  7. Annually: Reassess emergency fund balances
  8. Tax Season: Review "giving" categories
  9. Occasionally: Think of money-saving ideas as they come up (cell phone, irregular purchases, etc)
  10. Life Events: Health, Car, and Life Insurance annually or when there is a life event (job change, new vehicle, pay raise, etc…)
